MEMOIR AND LIFE WRITING
Why Should You Write Your Story?
Maybe you just want to capture a particular period or event in your life. Or maybe you want to recount half a century of memories for your children and grandchildren. Whatever the reason, there's a real magic in preserving your history, one chapter at a time.

Usually, there are two ways of doing this. Memoirs can be written at any point in your life. The focus tends to be on a certain time or period - for example, the country you left behind to emigrate to the UK, your career in the Army, or adventures sailing around the world. It's a great way to look back at a specific time and collate your memories of it.

A life story, on the other hand, is an autobiography. It looks at your whole life, from birth up until now. This, too, can be written at any point in your life, but the end result is more encompassing than a memoir, as it involves a longer time period.

You might choose to retell your story with photographs and mementos; with your favourite song lyrics; in prose or poetry: this is your story, so you have creative control. With my help, you will bring these stories to life, recreating your life's journey - one chapter at a time.

As for me? Well... the way we think about the past has always fascinated me. My maternal grandparents both died long before I was born. I would have loved to have known them; the stories my mother tells of them provide fascinating but choppy insights. Luckily, my grandmother made voice recordings of her life, which we then digitised from cassette tape and transcribed. These transcriptions have allowed me to tap into her world, her history, her way of thinking, the society in which she lived and the choices she had to make. Her story gives me perspective on my own way of thinking and living.
Her story is notable - just like yours.
